"...worn down by the latest corporate-boardroom-designed, soulless blockbuster or whatever garbage is trending on Netflix this month" hits the spot. I will be interested to take a look at your recommendations. Is there a streaming service that has these?
A typical evening in our household involves me having a moment of inspiration about a fantastic, must-see old movie, talking my wife into it, and then, when we’re both super excited to watch, going online to find it’s not streaming anywhere and the DVD will take weeks to arrive…
But as it happens, in this case, I think both of the above are available on Amazon!
Trapped in the house during a recent blizzard, I was searching for something the whole family could watch and then I remembered that my wife is tangentially (very tangentially) related to Maureen O’Hara. We visited Cong during our 2014 trip to get married and saw the statue of O’Hara and John Wayne from the movie. I did a quick search on the Roku and there it was “The Quiet Man”. It beat the pants off of any ‘new’ movie I’ve seen in years and we were sad to see it end.
It’s very, very tendential. I like to kid my wife, who is a redhead, about it. She has college picture we call her “Maureen O’Hara” portrait. But as I remember the connection is thru marriage, not biological ancestry.
Oh, if you want some just-plain-fun Irish movie for next St. Paddy's Day, Amazon has Waking Ned Devine. It's a hoot.
