The Case For CRT, DEI, and Whatever Racist Program They Come Up With Next
Building that pyramid…
This might be too clever by half, but bear with me. The most important qualifier out of the way: race does not matter, is a completely unbiblical concept, and nobody should ever, ever judge a person’s worth, character, or divine soul by the color of their skin. This should all go without saying, but since the opposite is now widely taught and preached, thought I should say it. How then could I possibly be in favor of “woke” identity politics? Well, I think such ideas are poisonous, so I’m not ‘in favor’ of them in the literal sense. But poison has its uses…
I wrote recently about the need to get your child out of the rat race, to save her mood and her soul. Was I always so wise? Definitely not. I was a high achieving little rat myself. I did not choose to scurry away from it all, I was thrown out of the cage. Growing up in a highly meritocratic community, my test scores propelled me to the top of the educational pyramid, where I remained comfortably for years, through high school and college… until it came time to apply to med school. There is no polite way to say this, but students of unimpressive academic achievement, students whom I was hired to tutor to help them pass, were welcomed into the most prestigious med schools in the world, schools where I could not even get an interview. By the 2000s, times had changed. My scores hadn’t declined; my diversity qualifications had.
Talk about a blessing in disguise! I can’t imagine how shallow my life would be were I still angling for that next promotion – chief resident, faculty member, journal editor, and so on, and so on. Since these institutions are the authorities on “science,” I also would probably be wearing an N95 in my car and banning unboosted children from my doorstep… Instead, I was blessed to leave behind Disraeli’s “greasy pole” and find true purpose and joy in the Cross. Scott Adams is no Christian, but has spoken of being passed over for promotion repeatedly in his prior career for the explicitly stated reason that he had the wrong diversity points. Instead of lamenting this new glass ceiling, he left his cubicle behind and became an internationally beloved cartoonist. The world has one less anonymous corporate drone, one more source of Saturday morning laughter. I’m no bestselling cartoonist, but thanks to academic identity politics, you lost a prestigious Ivy League physician and gained this far more prestigious substack…
Set aside for a moment the very real spiritual dangers of raising meritocrats who are trained to believe that success – and salvation – is in their own hands. From a purely secular perspective, if you know your children have no chance of getting that promotion, no matter how smart they are or how hard they work, because they were born into a disfavored ‘identity group,’ why would you start them along that path? You wouldn’t! The more clearly people come to understand this, the less the rat race beckons…
As for the ever-changing winners of the diversity games (sorry girls, the male autogynephiles are on top now), maybe they’ll see the decreased Valium usage among the rest of us and long for some of that sanity?
A fanciful Biblical analogy. Think of the first generation of truly talented meritocrats – the people who built the highways and put a man on the moon – as Joseph. Yes, Joseph saved Egypt and was beloved of Pharaoh. However – inadvertently, to be sure, for God’s ways are mysterious – Joseph led his people into slavery. His descendants were soon subject to a new pharaoh “which knew not Joseph.” Think of these as the children of the meritocrats, growing up in a world “which knew not colorblind admissions.” What to do? Should the Israelites work even harder, make even more bricks, and turn their backs on Moses, in the vain hope of softening Pharaoh’s heart? Or should they reject the false gods of Egypt and trust the one true God to lead them to the promised land?
I want to destroy the rat race, not save it. Why help the Egyptians build their pyramids? Why help Colonel Saito build his bridge? To borrow the advice of an evil man who knew how to carry out a revolution, let’s accelerate the contradictions. Pastor Voddie Baucham has a great line, “We cannot continue to send our children to Caesar for their education and be surprised when they come home as Romans.” An addendum of my own: if the Roman education system we send our children to is finally falling apart, don’t fight to repair it! Take advantage instead of the great opportunity to show our children the everlasting alternative to the Romans’ worldly empire.
Why do the heathen rage? Because the kings of the earth have turned against their founding mission and set themselves against the Lord. Yes, we should do all we can to help the people still trapped in those failed institutions – to help them find the heavenly city, not make the earthly kingdom run more efficiently in its error. Don’t teach your children how to succeed in Hell; show them how to prepare for Heaven. Teach them how to serve the Lord with fear, rejoice with trembling, and put their trust not in their resumés but in His Son.
Thank you for reading and have a wonderful week!
“nobody should ever, ever judge a person’s worth, character, or divine soul by the color of their skin.”
Fair enough. And probabilities matter. You are right to cross the street to avoid 3 young black men wearing hoodies at night in an urban environment. They have a far higher probability of harming you than 3 young men of other races.
"Don’t teach your children how to succeed in Hell; show them how to prepare for Heaven. Teach them how to serve the Lord with fear, rejoice with trembling, and put their trust not in their resumés but in His Son." Golden advice! Your children are blessed to have good parents and it shows and I truly am being impartial with that observation!
