“nobody should ever, ever judge a person’s worth, character, or divine soul by the color of their skin.”
Fair enough. And probabilities matter. You are right to cross the street to avoid 3 young black men wearing hoodies at night in an urban environment. They have a far higher probability of harming you than 3 young men of other races.
Well, you know, to borrow from Dennis prager, if you knew those three dudes just came from men’s group Bible study, and the three hooded white guys on the other side just came from an Antifa meeting, you might not be so fast to cross…
Yes which points to how we portray ourselves as what makes others nervous. It is the hoodies not who is wearing them that in my view should be avoided until wearing a hoody has more positive purposes than rebellion and not wanting too much light to hit your eyes. If you are wearing a hoody coming from a bible study group, you missed the point of bible study--wanting the best for your fellow men and not looking like your are not proud of the person God made you and wanting to show it off by not hiding from the world. I am nervous when anyone regardless of race has an appearance that I have come to recognize as either needing help or needing to be avoided and I will be very careful in finding out which is the case. If they need help, I will be doing whatever I can-first of all encouraging them to learn of Christ and appreciate and being proud of the fact that you are a child of God. But I am not going to be stupid enough to just assume everyone is safe to approach or allowed to approach me or my family. I just think that many are not as racist and even they themselves think. They are just not careful to determine exactly what about a person makes them nervous--often not race or color but behavior. Often some groups have similar bad behaviors in many and others attribute that behavior to all members of that race or group which is the mistake.
Well, is your black next door neighbor more likely to murder you than your white next door neighbor? Is your black coworker more likely to murder you than your white coworker? Of course not! That’s ridiculous, because those statistics aren’t truly about race, they’re about other things. And I truly hope people don’t view their friends and neighbors through crimestat lenses! It could endanger your soul and theirs. Just my two cents…
I think you are comparing apples and oranges here. I expect that neighbors are pretty much known by other neighbors. I wouldn't expect a neighbor of mine to murder me regardless of race,
However, I am an older woman who often walks alone at night since I don't have a car. And sad, to say, if I come across a group of black kids wearing hoodies walking down the street at night, I am far more cautious than I would be if it was one kid or any race but women along HAVE to be cautious. I has nothing to do with racism - it has to do with common sense.
Listen to Chris Rock sometime. As a black man, he has admitted that when he is taking money out of an atm and there are three black kids in hoodies behind him, he gets very nervous. . In our efforts to not judge others and hope everyone is headed for Heaven - which I happen to believe is true regardless- we often lose a grip on the reality we have to live with.
Why do I expect that Dennis Prager would not be walking on a street with black teenagers in hoodies. I think the Limo would be waiting to take him where he wants to go. His is a cheap shot at those of us who don't have cars picking us up.
Thank you for commenting! I think we’re talking past each other, I will try to be more clear.
I do know that famous Chris Rick routine and I can’t get into details because of its vulgarity but if you listen to it again you will see it is not about race per se.
Imagine you’re in China, or Mexico, or Russia, in a bad neighborhood, late at night, a woman walking alone… of *course* you need to be careful and armed and beware any group of hooded young men you see, it would be dangerous not to. But that’s not a race thing, it’s a young men in gangs thing. The neighbor example is not apples and oranges, it is precisely chosen to illustrate, as you agree, that it isn’t a race thing! race doesn’t matter, gang clothing does…
Why take the chance? On the Upper West Side of Manhattan (pre-covid) black girls in a pack of 3 were mugging the elderly. Word went out - and people avoided being near groups of blacks.
"Don’t teach your children how to succeed in Hell; show them how to prepare for Heaven. Teach them how to serve the Lord with fear, rejoice with trembling, and put their trust not in their resumés but in His Son." Golden advice! Your children are blessed to have good parents and it shows and I truly am being impartial with that observation!
Be careful, you sound dangerous and like you are spreading misinformation. Soon those in the rate race will have total control and be sending a cattle car for you.
Hey I know this isn’t related to your post, but I’m not sure how to email you. I would like your opinion on the book Turtles All The Way Down. I haven’t read it yet, but I might. Have you read it? Can you offer your thoughts? Thank you.
Your kids may do well to claim heritage from an oppressed ethnic minority tribe in Vietnam. The more marginalized the better. Elizabeth Warren benefited from doing that, Harvard prof now US senator. There are new rules. Adapt or perish.
My kids also half Asian. Increasingly, Whites and Asians claiming oppressed status/heritage to get acceptance to top tier schools (flight from White lol). Again, it worked for Elizabeth Warren. Uni admissions controlled by woke blue hairs who love narratives of non-Whites overcoming oppression. I don’t know if claiming oppressed ethnic Vietnam minority heritage and writing an essay on it would work, but it can’t hurt. Again, these are the new rules. I advise young White relatives to go entrepreneurial, not join the military or corporate America where they would be discriminated against at every turn in favor on non-Whites. It is what it is.
Btw our hapa kids will need much much higher MCAT scores than Blacks or Hispanics to get into med school. That’s today’s reality. I’m not sure lowering standards for Blacks helps them -- no one in his right mind wants to be treated by a doc who entered school with low qualifications.

It’s the way to bet. FBI stats show blacks commit 56% of murders despite being just 12% of the population. I don’t make the rules.

No, I haven’t read it yet either, I’m sorry!
